New Videos from David Ingram

There will be some great new vintage videos added in the next few months courtesy of David Ingram. Just go to the “Videos” section to see these bands. David has a wonderful collection of some of the best military bands of all time and he has been generous enough to share these with us. We’re going to start off with some videos of John “Pete” Kunkel’s band from Longview High School. Those bands were “TOUGH!” Keep checking back for many more videos over the next few months.

Pre-UIL NAMMB Marching Exhibition

We are excited to announce a NAMMB sponsored Pre-UIL Marching Exhibition on October 11th held in Carthage, TX. This event is in addition to our full marching competition on Nov 1st at SFA. This will be great opportunity for bands to have a performance for comments only before UIL in a very nice brand new stadium with turf. More information will be mailed out and posted on the web site shortly.

Cookout on August 9th

It’s almost time for our annual cookout and meeting at camp Tonkawa. The cookout will be on August 9th at 5pm. That is the same date as the Region 21 UIL meeting. We always have a great time at this event. There will be plenty of food, washer chunkin’, and discussions. Young directors, this is a great opportunity to talk to some experienced military directors. Make sure to have your membership paid or pay it when you get there. You can look at the Lake Tonkawa website and get directions here.

NAMMB Meeting

This year’s NAMMB meeting will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 on Monday, July 28th in room 213 at the convention center at the TBA convention in San Antonio. This year’s contest date and site will be determined at this meeting. Please make plans to attend.

50 Military Bands Earn First Division Marching

Congratulations to the 50 military marching bands in Texas that earned a first division at UIL in the 2007 marching season. Bands to receive this honor are:

Region 1: Boys Ranch, Stratford

Region 4: DeKalb, Gilmer, Gladewater, Harmony, Hughes Springs, New Boston, New Diana, Ore City, Pine Tree, Pittsburg, Spring Hill, Union Grove

Region 8: China Springs

Region 9: Cleveland, Huntsville, Montgomery, Willis

Region 10: Buna, Hemphill, Nederland, Vidor

Region 19: Atascocita, Crosby, Kingwood, Kingwood Park

Region 20: Ennis

Region 21: Athens, Brownsboro, Bullard, Carlisle, Carthage, Center, Chapel Hill, Garrison, Hallsville, Henderson, Jacksonville, Lindale, Longview, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Rusk, San Augustine, Teneha, Timpson, Van, West Rusk, Whitehouse

We would also like to give a big congratulations to the military bands that represented us at the state marching contest.

1A: Carlisle finished 9th in prelims, Teneha finished 12th in prelims

2A: New Boston finished 3rd in finals, DeKalb finished 6th in finals
